Christ and Culture: Biblical Sexuality

Additional Resources

December 31 – Januar-Februaryy 2024

Question from my Grandson: Papa D, how can we know that the Bible is true?

The Bible is:

  • a reliable collection of historical documents,
  • written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses,
  • that report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies,
  • and they claim that their writings are of divine origin rather than human in origin.

Amen? Amen!

Note from John Dillard/Biblical Counselor: Of all of our resources, I believe that the next step for ALL families, whether you have teens or preteens or not, is learn about Dr. Yaun and make plans to do this study. His and his mom’s testimony is seismic and can be so crucial in helping teens and preteens understand the crucial implications of going down this path and the Power of Prayer. (Important: Denny Burk was asked what age a family should introduce these teachings. He said middle elementary ages was already almost too late given the invasion of the culture into schools and conversations.) The study is intended for families. If any family would like for me to help coordinate this study, please let me know. Every teen you know needs to learn these truths. Share it with families and friends. Dr. Yaun does an amazing job of using amazing graphics and breaking the lessons down into parts to keep kids engaged. PBC Biblical Counseling Ministry will reimburse for the cost of the study for members if needed.

(Last: I have reviewed the first seven or so lessons. I believe it is solid. If you notice any red flags, please let me know. We want to balance Grace and Truth. https://holysexuality.com/

Groundwork/Foundation – Though I/we still have so much to learn (on both the truth AND love sides of the coin–Ephesians 4:15), I want to invite you to visit our website where you can find the complete series.

  • * December 31 (The lies our enemy tells us–Genesis 3–Brent Wells)
    • Primarily this is NOT an issue of culture or sexuality but of God. Who is He? What is He like? What does He love/hate? What’s His will? What does His word say about THESE questions? Satan planted a suggestion in the form of a question, Satan’s question “smuggles in the assumption that God’s word is subject to our judgment”.
  • *January 7 (Inerrancy of Scripture–Brent Wells)
    • Sin is ultimately irrational, and sin makes us think incorrectly about God and about creation. because sin distorts people’s perception of reality, they do not recognize Scripture for what it really is. …it is only through the work of the Holy Spirit [through the gospel] enabling us to be persuaded that the Bible is indeed the Word of God and that the claims it makes for itself are true.
  • *January 14 (Sufficiency of Scripture, Hunter Bradley),
    • for all time, past, present and future, God has revealed to us, what we need to know, to walk with him and walk like Him and he has done it by his word. And nothing else measures up or is adequate to the task.
  • *January 21 (Authority of Scripture, Byron Moss)
    • The Bible has authority and is authoritative because it is God’s word to us—it is his self-revelation—and as such, the Bible has the same authority as God. As Augustine put it, “What Scripture says, God says.”
    • When confronted with unbiblical arguments, If you are faithful to Scripture, you reject falsehood on God’s authority, which supersedes all others.
  • *January 28 (Biblical Anthropology & Gender Identity–Genesis 1 & 2–Brent Wells)
    • Anthropology is the study of humanity. Christian Anthropology is the study of humanity from a Christian / biblical perspective.
    • This includes what it means to be human, an image bearer of God, and what it means to be male and female. Lastly, this includes the fact of original sin. All are created in God’s image but due to original sin, that image is defaced but not erased.
  • *February 4th (A Biblical View of Homosexuality, Romans 1 & 1 Corinthians 6–Brent Wells)
    • Homosexuality (even same sex attraction) is a sin. Why? It is outside of the scope of God’s creation order/divine design. It breaks God’s Word and it breaks God’s heart. God hates it not just because it is sin. He hates it because it destroys those whom He loves.
    • God’s aim is NOT that everyone embraces heterosexuality….BUT holy sexuality (Christopher Yuan). Thus, we are to share the gospel with any and all, heralding, “Through repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be saved/forgiven, you will become a worshiper of the One True/Living God of the Bible and you will grow into the man/woman of Christ you were meant to be.”

Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters

  • NAMED A BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE ECONOMIST AND ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF 2021 BY THE TIMES AND THE SUNDAY TIMES
“Irreversible Damage . . . has caused a storm. Abigail Shrier, a Wall Street Journalwriter, does something simple yet devastating: she rigorously lays out the facts.” —Janice Turner, The Times of London…

Until just a few years ago, gender dysphoria—severe discomfort in one’s biological sex—was vanishingly rare. It was typically found in less than .01 percent of the population, emerged in early childhood, and afflicted males almost exclusively.

But today whole groups of female friends in colleges, high schools, and even middle schools across the country are coming out as “transgender.” These are girls who had never experienced any discomfort in their biological sex until they heard a coming-out story from a speaker at a school assembly or discovered the internet community of trans “influencers.”

Unsuspecting parents are awakening to find their daughters in thrall to hip trans YouTube stars and “gender-affirming” educators and therapists who push life-changing interventions on young girls—including medically unnecessary double mastectomies and puberty blockers that can cause permanent infertility.

Abigail Shrier, a writer for the Wall Street Journal, has dug deep into the trans epidemic, talking to the girls, their agonized parents, and the counselors and doctors who enable gender transitions, as well as to “detransitioners”—young women who bitterly regret what they have done to themselves.

Coming out as transgender immediately boosts these girls’ social status, Shrier finds, but once they take the first steps of transition, it is not easy to walk back. She offers urgently needed advice about how parents can protect their daughters.

A generation of girls is at risk. Abigail Shrier’s essential book will help you understand what the trans craze is and how you can inoculate your child against it—or how to retrieve her from this dangerous path.

Note from John Dillard/Biblical Counselor: This is a secular book, however, all of our experts dealing with transgenderism recommend this book. I believe every parent of a teenager needs to be armed with these truths to help our young people in this battle.
